The Awesome Mom's Planning Guide for Family Fun

Every year school lets out and the summer months simply race by. It is easy to spend the entire three month break simply planning your summer, only to find that August has come to soon. For work at home moms and dads, planning out your summer in detail is critical to surviving the time spent together at home. Whether going to a family fun center, or coming up with activities at home, here are a few steps to help you plan your summer.
1. Plan Your Calendar on a Week by Week Basis

Print out a few more blank calendar pages than you need in case you need to make several drafts. First, jot down any definite events you already have scheduled for the summer, such as vacations, camps, holidays, day trips, and houseguests. Include any work-related deadlines, business travels, or other important dates. This provides you with a rough idea of what days you will need a plan for managing your time spent on work and on playing with your kids.

2. Set up Your Summer Day Care Plan

With your calendar set up, start thinking about when you have deadlines for work, and when you might need to place your children in the care of someone else. Summer camps often fill up as early as February, and summer is prime time for babysitters. Whether you enroll your kids in daycare or simply have them stay with the grandparents, having these options will allow you some time to manage work and family.

3. Plan a Few Activities to Have On Hand

On days where the kids complain of boredom from being stuck at home, consider taking them to a museum or family fun center where they can explore ideas and learn. If your children are old enough to play without direct supervision at all times, a fun center is a great way for your kids to get some exercise and stimulation, as well as a good meal.
